I agree it's not the ideal setup! Last year was an odd example, the ground was just so firm. We ended up having to run max downpressure and still were not able to achieve 100% ground contact. We ended up having to slow down just a touch and that was enough to keep us happy, but still wasn't perfect.
Being on 20" rows we often times run various rows across or on top of a worked softer spots in the field from the nh3 toolbar (30" spacing), or manure application (24" spacing).
How quick do the hydraulic systems react in situations like that.
I am hoping moving to a cover crop broadcast spread on the manure acres and lights working that in with a GP Ultra till will help minimize those soil density changes over winter. | |
