Sac & Story county IA | In a DC motor speed is controlled by voltage, in AC the speed is controlled by hertz. If you turn down voltage, it will just make motor work harder to try to do same job. Then, it will burn out. There have been a lot of things tried in drill presses, lathes, milling machines to achieve variable speed. Transmissions, step pulleys, 2 speed motors, even lathes with DC motors. The AC variable frequency drive obsoleted them all. The drives are great but expensive and need decent environment to last. Out on portable auger would be asking for short life. | |
