NNW Nebraska | For a simple calving book, use google sheets. Set your sheet up to work off line. Use your smart phone to enter calves info. Any time you get signal, it is updated. Can open ion the puter when you get to the house, its already there.
Every body I know tags calf with mothers number. When saving replacements, give a cow tag.
Numbers start with yearborn, 16 for 2016. Or use a letter for year, use google to find what letter for each year.
Some write dam's number above new cow number, but can just keep track of that in your records.
If you dont like loosing cows identity from lost tags, keep 2 tags in each cow. I recomend boc-loc brisket tag for one of those, they seldom get lost. Not sure you can get a letter on the boc-loc tags.
Use a different color tag than neighbors. | |
