Depends how you run your hog buildings and the feed rations that are feed to the hogs. If you neglect keeping the waters working properly and leak a lot of water into the pit you will have poor quality manure and higher application cost do to the extra volume, plus probably need additional fertilizer per acre. We do not feed low phosphorus feed and are very careful about water waste. Our 8 foot pits rarely get more than 6ft of manure in a year. I have a neighbor that pumps his 8ft pits twice a year. The acres needed really depend on management, which in turn affects the quality of your manure. Good manure requires more acres, poor manure less acres and more commercial fertilizer.
