Subject: Dry land corn planting date?

This question is one I've been mulling over for awhile.I live and farm in SW Nebraska we plant a fair amount of dry land crop and in this we grow some corn so one theory is to plant fairly early in spring the same time as irrigated corn is being planted around last week of April first of May this will hopefully take advantage of any spring moisture profile and early summer rains but this also seems to catch some of hotter weather during pollination or during the plants more important development stages. The other theory is to delay planting until later even to around Memorial Day the theory here is that we then have a smaller plant in the hot period and the plant will pollinate and produce a nice ear instead of burning up.But it seems an August rain would be critical with this theory. So does anyone in this Great American Desert have experience or opinions one way or other?
