Harrow twice a year....still there. Graze it...still there. Light disking...still there. They winter in the tree rows as well. Only alfalfa that doesn't have weevils is the alfalfa/brome mix, and that's exactly beside the pure alfalfa field. Not sure exactly what the grass gives the alfalfa, phosphorus? but I've noticed the brix readings are higher on the alfalfa that's growing within the brome than that of the straight fields. We don't do chemical, so that's not an option. Plus, the fellows who do chemical around here, still get em and they usually show up in both cuttings(if we are able to get two). Got tricked into getting told insects can't digest sugars, like grasshoppers and such. So bought a tote of molasses as well as regular white sugar...sprayed the chit out of both mixes....lets just say we got a free tote out of the expensive experience. It did smell good after we sprayed it.
