redoak - 2/20/2017 18:35 Other than retirement mutual funds /investments what does a strong stock market say or mean to the "working man"? Some previous posts discussing "made in America" ,its costs/benefits and how greedy companies want to outsource or build off shore too make more money ,but doen't those increased profits go back to shareholders,re-investments in publically traded companies? Is a strong stock market what farmers need? TIA for any thoughts A strong stock market meant more when shares of companies were more widely owned by individuals. Right now the stock market is like going to the casino. There is a lot of money floating around looking for a quick buck. A lot of individuals lost their shirts in the market in 2008 and are not going back. The increase in profits due to short term reduction in costs from outsourcing is largely going into corporate stock buybacks to keep the share price and resulting executive bonuses up or going into buying out the competition. Everything is short term thinking, computerized "high frequency" program trading and has no relevance for the "working man" who has no savings to put into the stock market and is in fact getting put out of work by the outsourcing. imho. |
