Give them the benefit of the doubt. Take them to the bathroom and let them go but no dinking around and dont engage in any conversation other than 'are you done?'. Then straight back to bed without talking. Tuck them in, good night kiss, and leave. Its just a phase and will pass but may take a couple weeks.
You can do all sorts of punishments or take stuff away for getting up. It will not change it, they will still go through the phase and might lead to a tantrum in the middle of the night which you really dont want. The getting up will still happen. My daughter used to do it too but grew out of it.
That is good advice. They are feeding off the attention/interaction and the more you mess around arguing and reasoning with them the worse it gets. It is a game and the sooner they realize you aren't going to play they will get tired of trying.
