NS Canada | Bale grazing could have a place, but again I think the waste outweighs any gains. I would lose too much to rot if I set bales out in fall. And if I pulled them out of a building and placed them around the cows would mostly lay on them.
Guys may complain about starting a tractor daily to feed and then having to spread the manure. But my tractors don't run for free in summer to make all that wasted hay either. 30%+ hay waste more than pays for me to spread manure a couple days.
I'd consider bale grazing a poor piece of land to help bring it back into shape, but then I'm just chalking the waste up to improved soil health.
