NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | Like everyone else said clay tiles. I have some I use in our garden. They work great to put around small freshly planted tomatoes, peppers and etc.. I leave them on there all summer long. Build some dirt up around then and it's a quick and easy way to water the plants when it gets dry during the dry times. Just fill the tile up until it overflows and move onto the next one. The water will slowly seep down where it needs to go. I wish I had more of them.
Forgot to add the tile also helps to keep the new plants protected from the wind and helps to keep the plants warmer when small.
