Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | If you follow the marine traffic for major South American ports, what you see is that some of the same ships re-appear at month to month & half intervals but often set at anchorage for three weeks to get loaded. I suspect that in order to get a spot in the queue some Asian traders dedicate ships to that route. I haven't spent the time monitoring New Orleans but what I see is that NOLA can load 50-60 ships per week and never have more than 10 ships waiting.
The last I checked, Marine Traffic showed 153,000 cargo ships on it's world map. Obviously, not all of them are bulk carriers, but a surprising number are. And then, not all bulk carriers carry grain. Still, there are a lot of cargo ships operating on the Oceans.
