To the original poster: Like any breed there are good cattle and bad within the breed. When the breed is small it has it's challenges and I put little faith in the EPD's as they move a bunch year to year.
One Black Hereford herd I know of has put so much effort into carcass traits they have forgotten the maternal traits. The cattle may look good in picture and on paper, but fail in most environments. Several of my colleagues in the breed and I will never buy another animal from said herd and are striving to cleanse our herds from there foundation genetics.
A little over a year ago or so, there was a split in the breed and a second registration formed. This, in all reality, has hurt the breed in several ways.
