NS Canada | Alright, quick sketch I'll try and explain (imagine it as solid and not see-thru). Basically weld a couple tabs on that you can slide a piece of thin plate thru, a channel for it to ride in on the bottom and one to hold it on top. Have a 90* bent on the outter edge so it butts up against the square tubing when closed, that will act as a stop when sliding it towards the head gate. Fashion a handle to grab it some how, to pull it towards the back. You should be able to slide it in and out to get your arm in there. I thought of various doors or flaps, but you're not able to swing those inward, and it cant open outwards, without their foot pushing it open too.. so I think this should work.
