I was in a waiting area lounge a few days ago & was able to pick up a copy of Popular Mechanics & read thru it. I was a PM subscriber 50-60 yrs ago, but haven't followed it much lately. It has definitely changed. Anyway, an ad that caught my attention was from some cigarette company selling "organic, non-gmo tobacco products". I have no idea about whether tobacco is available as genetically modified or not...don't care now or ever. But, it certainly seemed like a hypocritical (I think that's correct term) to be suggesting smokers have a potentially (advertised) healthier choice. I'm absolutely certain the ad had no inference to the policies of PM...it was just in their magazine. It seems that choosing organic non-gmo tobacco would be akin to choosing the new "green" (copper) bullet for a final suicidal action vs choosing the traditional lead projectile. The gmo, non-gmo, & organic advertising is certainly giving the public what they want to hear. |
