We have been sidedressing all of our corn for over 15 years. We start as soon as we can row the corn because you never know what the weather will do and the sooner you start the longer your application window is.

+1...you never know what mother nature will throw at you. Especially if you are doing NH3. We run as soon as the corn is big enough to not cover it up with dirt that can roll off our knives. As to the rate and availability of N, once again mother nature is the largest factor. Some years here, 90lbs sidedressed pays the best, others 150 lbs, but in general 120lbs work for most. Trial and error are the best ways to figure it out. Do several plots over many years. We run a nitrogen plot or two every year. We also run 10 gal of 28% with the planter to give us that kickstart before we sidedress.
