I THINK they are saying that the articles are saying that if BUSINESS taxes (all businesses, not just corporations) rates are lowered to 15%, one of the tradeoffs for getting the lowered tax rates is to eliminate the Section 1031 exchanges.

Apparently most people associate 1031 exchanges with only deferring taxes on LAND sales.

Section 1031 is a generic section, and applies to all like kind business property...........example: land and equipment.

If 1031 is eliminated, regardless of the income tax rate, there would be a bunch of unexpected taxable income resulting from routine trades of equipment.



Understand all that, Jake.

As you said, 1031 is a very broad act. Thats why I was struggling to make any connection (well, maybe better said- the only connection stated?) with corporate tax rates.
