Southeast Colorado
The biggest elevator around here that takes in 80-90% of all the wheat grown here does not segregate for protein. They have lots of locations but the 5 within 20 miles of me will take in anywhere from 250k to a million bushels each per day during the heat of harvest. They do not check protein and segregate. Maybe a year like this will change things but when you're dumping 1000 semi trucks a day there's not much time to be picky. Now though.........cheap prices and tight margins may make producers and elevators start to view this differently.
