NW Illinois Stephenson county
When I was in second grade our teacher Blanche Folgate would ask the class every morning what we had for breakfast and we would raise our hands if we had it; like "cereal?", "oatmeal?", "pancakes?", and so forth. Then she would ask if anyone had something she did not call out. So one day she did not call out what I had. So she asked me what I had. So I said "sh*t on the shingle". She said "WHAT?????" So I told her "sh*t on the shingle" again (her mistake!) . I could not figure what I said that was wrong when I was ushered to the back of the room. After that intense conversation she would call "chipped beef on toast" while looking directly in my eyes. For us it was ground beef on toast. She was careful after that if I had any more "exotic" dishes from the Army which is where Dad got the name when he served in WW ll.

My brother's 4 kids knew the story, maybe so they did not risk being thrown out of school at an early age?
