Never played with an actual Arduino, but have done some things with Beaglebone and Raspberry Pi. Depends on what you want to do with it, the microcontroller seems to fit well with the hardware focused tasks, the microcomputers are more for the software focused tasks with some hardware ability. I really like the Pi, easier to work with than the Beaglebone to me. Although functionally the Beaglebone worked just as well.
