central ontario | Here in Ontario we have a nonexchangeable K nutrient bank of over 22000 lbs per acre,it does seem like a waste purchasing our immediate K needs, business as usual with the bank account of K sitting there full and no way to withdraw from the account.
Have seen a study out India that showed that plants were actually drawing on the nonexchangeable K,growing plant matter that was greater then the soil test levels of K.getting a release from this band of K would be nice, but near impossible with normal ag practices being applied.
So where to jbgruver?
There was the one long term study in the US that seemed to point to maybe our K purchase needs were suspect and one study attached to the above that covered a lot of foreign countries also on extra k added vs no K,but nothing on the natural K release from soils other the maybe weathering.
There is some release when applying compost to help ,but seems limited on info, this course of compost seems to give more sites for K attachment then any soil K release thou. | |
