Macs' Time Machine uses an external drive.
If the restore is on the startup drive, and that internal drive crashes, your restore is gone!
If Mac laptops running Time Machine -- and Time Machine is turned on -- & are disconnected from their external drive, they'll take daily incremental snapshots & store them on the startup drive until the external drive is reconnected.
Macs also have a Recovery Partition on the startup drive but it's not for data-backup. | |
