Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | If you like the 5100, then a 6000 or 8000 series planter is virtually the same, but with some improvements to the units. We have 3pt planters as do most others around here because of gravity irrigation, cant get a pull type to stay on the ridges.
Biggest thing to watch with a 3pt is weight. They can get heavy in a hurry, and you might need lift assist wheels. We pick up a 6-36 6700 White, 1.5bu boxes and full insecticide boxes, and Sunco trash whipper/ 2x2 fertilizer openers with a 2-155 White, but it makes the front end very light without the saddle tanks even with a full rack of weights, just having the tanks on and empty helps. We used to do it without the duals on, but we blew out some Firestone sidewalls, the extra heavy duty ones and broke a couple rims, life is much better with the duals on. Someday I would like to rework the mast and try to bring the planter a little more forward, but it works. |
