A: At what stage of an engine restoration do you use solvent on the block?

B: Before tear down?

C: Would used engine oil be too thick for it to suck?

A: during engine in-frame overhaul, after cleaning liner bore areas and/or after counterboring top deck(but you try and vacuum up the metal chips, first, that set on rubber caps that fit lower liner bores, during machining process, then spray out, but make sure you have wrapped rod journals, before any cleaning/buffing process, too = keep debris out of an oil passages) You also have to change out those old dirty, wet-soaked towels you wrapped crankshaft with, and oil the crankshaft journals and apply new shop towels = if you don't; it will surface-rust the rod journals.

B: I assume, that would work, on a very, very dirty oily engine, externally.

C: My guess, is you make need to cut old oil with 1/2 diesel fuel = just my guess(never tried it)
