Subject: set aside

Northeast Nebraska and Candelaria Philippines
I can't believe that there are still those that think a set aside program would be helpful. This thinking is SO SHORT SIGHTED. So we set some of our acres aside, so prices will rise, so South America, China, Africa, ect can plant more for a profit?

It just blows my mind when people call for a set aside, I really can't believe people think this would work.

The answer is always "beating the competition" Unfortunately in Ag, sometimes this means your neighbor. Sometimes it means another country.

If you want to be profitable. You have to be able to produce more for less.

Lets pretend there was a set aside and prices were $.50 higher. How much of the $.50 would the farmer get to keep? How much would go toward land prices (owner or renter) seed, fert, equipment, tax....

Guys, the answer isn't getting a better price. The answer is getting a better yield at a lower cost, and doing a better job marketing then both your neighbor and South America.
