Years ago we could take out a walnut orchard and push the trees brush stumps etc into big burn piles and burn them.

The only thing you could really grow the next year was wheat and at every burn pile site it would be almostly completely bare except for fiddle neck and nettle.

It was as if you went out there with a soil sterilant and a few noxious weeds escaped.
