| If you can't make any money planting wheat you are supposed to not plant it, plant less of it or figure out a way to significantly lower your costs. I'm not sure it's a great thing for the government to pay us to do business as usual because it's what we're used to. I just was reading how guys were going on about how uncomfortable a JD8430 was compared to a newer R model - yikes it's like comparing a Mercedes to a BMW or Cadillac. We are certainly not doing a lot to keep costs down even if you can produce a wild spreadsheet showing the cheapest way to farm is with brand new equipment.
I think there is plenty to do on our side without the government stepping in and letting us do business as usual and keep all our inputs (including rents) artificially high. If the grain doesn't have that much value, it is what it is. Remember we grow commodities and the fundamentals of commodities always win in the end. If you let them 'win' sooner it's better. | |
