We plant a plot on our own ground, using our own practices every year. Dekalb sponsors the plot so most of the hybrids in the plot are Dekalb but we invite the other major seed companies ( in Ontario there are only 3-4 competitive companies...not like the US where you might have 15 to choose from ) to put in their top 2 varieties. Co-op comes out and helps plant the plot, as well as weigh off the plot . Doing this helps us choose what works best for us , in our condition and our practices. Others in the area do the same , the co-op compiles all the individual plots that we can browse through just to see if there is any consistency in our area. Often times one or two hybrids will rise to the top in the area. We tend to stick with what did best THIS year, and will try a new hybrid for next year based on the plots. Seems like around here most hybrids only last 3-4 yrs before being replaced so its good to keep looking at the new stuff coming down the pipe.

what are the 3-4 competitive companies in Ontario. By competitive you mean the top 3-4 companies by sales or products?
