Sometimes you can get away with symbols, other times they cause issues.
Main issue is line names created in Apex.. Apex will let you create new named lines with symbols in them that GS2/3 won't let you create (they're greyed out on the on-screen GS2/3 keyboard)

"/" must be OK, I have other AB lines on other fields where I h used that symbol
