E.Central MN | We had a small stackhand machine and a 3pt stack mover. It chopped the stalks into a chamber, you could press the stack down and add more stalks til you thought the chamber was full(it still wasn't very dense compared to round bales). Then you'd open the back door, turn on the floor chain and drive forward to put the stack on the ground. If we were stacking a field close to the cattle we'd drive near the feedlot and dump the stacks in a row. Otherwise we'd just dump the stacks when we were full and move the stacks home later. If the wind got bad, half the stacks blew away. Round balers got cheaper, and bales (especially hay) store better and are easier to handle, so you don't see many stackers being used anymore.
