Subject: RE: 1964

Fairbury, NE (Southeast)
1.25 corn and ground was 4-500/acre for the best dirt around. 400 bushels to buy an acre in 1964 compared to 1500-1800 bushels today. Back then a guy could legitimately start from scratch and build a farming operation. The 70's really accelerated the trend of larger operations and consolidation. Amazing how hogs and cattle were worth even money back then. Goes to the mechanisation and mass production of the hog business.
