Is there a lot of silage in your ration? I would try first without water to see if you feel you really need it. Here all the nutritionists were pushing people to add water to their dairy rations about 5-10 years ago as they claimed it would increase dry matter intake so we all started doing it . We tried it and never noticed a difference in feed consumption so we felt it wasn't worth the hassle. And in the heat of the summer we felt the feed was more prone to heating. I never hear of anyone talking about it anymore but rations here are haylage and corn silage based so they already have ample moisture
