If I had my choice I would go with a .27 across the slope vs 1% up the slope. However sometimes there is some practicality that comes into play as well. I like to run mains up the main slope to get more grade on them to possibly have smaller and thus less expensive mains. Your spacing is going to determine cost per acre for laterals, so direction is not relevant. If I can save cost on mains, I will.
