If a guy nets $100 an acre on 1000 acres farmed, no matter if it's rented or owned, I'd say he is doing ok.
As a farmer he has a lot more risk on the table then a salaried job, but 100k salaried job in the Midwest would let a family live pretty decent I think.
But apparently net 50k on those acres aint enough? Would be very tight no doubt. Especially with family.
