Subject: RE: Family tradition

We have done the Christmas tree cutting for 38 years, I agree it gets harder to coordinate a time when all can do it.

We also do the twelve days of Christmas for someone every year. What that is, we pick someone or a family that is going through a tough time and buy twelve gifts for them. These are usually small practical gifts they can use.

My wife has a poem that goes with the gift bag and it is delivered anonymously. The poem gives the directions that one gift is to be opened daily starting on the 13th. The last one opened on Christmas Day reveals who the gift giver is.
We have done this for better then 30 years and had great results from the recipients, a lot of who do it now also.
One of the most memorable was a young mother with two kids at home while her husband was in Iraq called Christmas morning and said when Diane answered the phone. I am going to cry, then shared how it helped her and the kids get through the holidays.
