A sim card and a micro sd card are two different things.  A sim card is from your phone carrier.  It just keeps your phone number and other settings from your phone company.  Micro sd card is just for keeping things in memory on your phone.  Things like pics, podcast, and songs.Your phone will not work without a sim card, but will work without a micro sd card.
