Subject: My Lucky Day

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Yesterday I was dong some tillage and it was getting pretty boring. Everything was going great, auto steer was steering for me, conditions were good and some long rounds. I had my supply of music with me including some old radio programs of Gunsmoke and Dragnet.

About 3 PM, my phone rang. The display said "unkown" for the caller. Lo and behold it was a gentlemen with a bit of an accent informing me that I had won 3.5 million dollars from Publishers Clearing House. Normally I would have just said something smart and hung up but I was bored so I played along. He asked me if I was at my home. I said No, I am a farmer and I'm out in my field. He asked what I was planting. I said no, I'm harvesting corn. I asked if he knew what corn was or if it was called maize in his country. He didn't reply.

He kept repeating how lucky I was to have won. I said the money would really be handy since I just had new tires put on my tractor yesterday. He didn't seem to respond to that either. He then informed me that two gentlemen would be coming to my door with the check and to escort me to my bank. I said that would be fine but I was hoping it would have been Ed McMahon but I guess he's dead. He didn't seem to respond to this either.

He asked me if I had a bank account. I said yes. He asked me how far it was to the nearest Wal-Mart. I said about 20 miles. He asked me if I was familiar with Western Union. I said Yes, that was one of my favorite songs out of the 60's and was done by the Five Americans but I was surprised that he knew of it since it was probably before his time. He didn't respond.

He asked me if I had something to write on. I said no I didn't have any paper in the tractor but I could write on my hand. He said that wouldn't do and he would call me back. Something about some instructions. I'm guessing it had to do with mailing a little money through Western Union. He did tell me not to tell anyone about my good fortune since there would be all kinds of bad people trying to take my new riches away from me.

Later I was changing points on the 875 and he did call back. I told him I was too busy and to call me today. Curious if I will get a call today. I wasted about 20 minutes of his time but it was a form of entertainment.
