| If anyone thinks this issue will go away after the herbicide is approved, please stand up. It will pit neighbor versus neighbor and family versus family. Generics will always win out over branded herbicide due to cost. While the cost of the new herbicide system is yet to be determined, I can guarantee it will be more than mixing generic dicamba and generic glyphosate. I have seen and been told from several industry experts that the new herbicide is not immune to drift. Even in regulated research trials, the herbicide moved off target and damaged non-dicamba soybeans. With all the proposed stewardship regulations with the new gly/dicamba formulation, I'm not sure how big the market opportunity is with this technology. Although the major seed companies are forcing growers to use Xtend soybeans, there are other proven programs out there. Finally, there are already weed species resistant to dicamba. | |
