linsal - 10/25/2016 10:58 Around here, it is common to give cards...and most of the time there is a modest amount of money as well. People "know" who can afford to pay for funerals, so the money given goes to help defray the costs of the funeral. Also, it is common for Catholics to give money to have a Catholic priest say a Mass where the intention of the Mass is for the person who died. In our diocese, the suggested offering is $10, but that is up to the person giving the Mass intention. A priest can not demand a certain amount of money to say a Mass for a dead person.

 

We are Catholic and here it is common to give money for the priest to say mass.
