Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS

When one of our church members dies the family will often request that memorial donations be made to the church or to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. If the deceased was a victim of cancer or some other malady it is also sometimes suggested that the donation be made to that disease's research (Cancer Society, etc.). When the church receives a donation in memory of someone a "thank you" letter showing the amount of the donation is sent to the donor so that they can claim a tax deduction if they choose to do so. Of course, they also have their cancelled check to use as proof. Another letter is sent to the deceased's family to let them know of the donation and the person who made the donation. However, the amount is not revealed to the deceased's family. Just the fact that a donation was made and the mailing address of the donor so that the family can send a "thank you" if they choose to do so.
