| Sometime way back in the 1950's, a NASTY tornado struck Woodward, Oklahoma, causing severe damage. The storm made its way to the NNE, and later passed through my area of Kansas--but in much reduced form.
Later, my Dad was out farming, and observed an envelope lying on the ground. Upon investigation, it was found that the envelope contained a U.S. Savings bond, containing the name and address of a lady from Woodward......nearly 200 miles away. Dad felt honor-bound to return the bond to the lady personally.......and on one Sunday after church we all loaded into the car, and headed for Woodward, where the lady was found, and the bond returned. I barely remember the trip, as my age would have been in the lower single digits at the time.
Anyway, I still marvel today at the 200 +- mile trip that envelope took, and still arrived in useable form. showboat | |
