North Central Illinois | I have been seeding triticale after corn harvest to grow some forage before planting soybeans. Usually wheat goes in after soybeans. I could plant triticale instead of wheat and take it off as baleage. I was just thinking wheat for grain would be nice since I need some straw anyhow and most years organic wheat grain is worth more than small grain baleage.
I have had a fairly thick stand of volunteer wheat in my August seedings after wheat harvest. Does not seem to cause a problem, but seeding after soybean harvest doesn't give as much time to establish prior to frost. So I would need to plant the legumes later. | |
