Eastern Shore of MD | I sidedressed about 65 acres with feathermeal 10 years ago. I tried using a IH cultivator fertilizer attachment with the old plate type metering wheel in the bottom and had a lot of problems with lumps plugging the outlet. I would think a drop spreader would have similar problems unless the agitation was extremely aggressive. Even with agitation I had problems. I started running everything through rat wire to screen out lumps but it was too slow and I ended up broadcasting which worked great. The root of my problem was that the warehouse loader would run over a little making a cake and then scrape the floor with the bucket on the next pass causing the lumps. Whatever you do, don't let the feathermeal get wet; it'll revert back to chicken manure... trust me.
