Depends what it is near. If it isn't going to start something else or get blown into something flammable you are probably ok. People do not realize how hot compost is. A gardener put grass clipping in a dumpster at a place I cared for. It set the contents of the can on fire in just one day. I had to tip the can with the tractor and put it out.
