W Texas
About 20 years ago Texans went nuts over Emus. 50k/breeding pair etc. A year or two later folks had woken up to the fact that no one wanted to eat Emu burgers. They were running wild everywhere.

A friend who was stuck "holding the bag" called me one weekend and informed me that hunting season wasn't quite over. He wanted rid of his Emus and couldn't figure out how to round them up. He wanted help and added, "be sure to bring a shotgun and buckshot." We got them "rounded up".

My great uncle may have been the only person to have made money on Ostriches back in the day. He was a veterinarian and went all over Oklahoma taking care of ostriches. Never owned one and thought folks were nuts the whole time. When they went bust people begged him to take ostriches and/or eggs as a form of payment. 50k/breeding pair one year and ostrich egg omelettes the next.
