I agree, exponential growth is unsustainable, especially at the current rates in places like debt and health care.  But what most of the doomsayers neglect to mention, is that the unsustainable debt, and social program costs are not unique to one nation, it is almost world wide.  It becomes a house of cards, but as long as everyone is equally irresponsible, it is like Mutually Assured Destruction financial style, and it likely can go on much longer than any of us believe it could or should.  Who wants to pull the card out that will destroy their own system also?  The eventual fail will be epic, but predicting the timing is not something I am willing to attempt.
