Subject: Update - Funeral planning what to expect?

NC Indiana
Received word an hour ago that my FIL passed away. His health had been slipping for several years now and took a turn for the worse last Monday. As they have no assets or income, this will be a medicare funeral. From what I understand in meeting with the funeral home, they are only allowed to charge $4150 for a medicare funeral with $2000 coming from medicare should they meet all the criteria to receive that amount and the rest comes from the family. Should they bill anything above the $4150, medicare deducts and equal amount from what they will pay. Flowers, plots, stone, and obituary are all separate. Township plots run $100 locally, Church plots run $200-400, IOOF run $250-550. Opening and closing the grave cost $550. Stones simple stones start at $700, monument types start at $1200. The darker the stone the more they cost, and fixed cost run the same no matter the size of the stone (footer, polishing, cutting, freight). Also, do not try to pre pay for a funeral once they are on medicare as it voids all the medicare funeral benefits. Funeral trust funds set up before going on medicare are not figured into this equation. Thank you all once again for your input and prayers.
