NE SD | Surge protectors don't work against lightning. I thought they did years back....nope, fried a computer during a storm. Called the company and was told that they almost work as a conductor for lightning. Other surges they work fine though.
From one of the many number of websites mentioning it:
"Do Surge Protectors Work Against Lighting
The short answer is NO. At least not any surge protector that you can buy for the inside of your house. Even a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with surge protection will not be able to handle a lighting strike that is close by."
