Rome, KS | Here on the southern end of the state, forage sorghum is out the window if you plan on trying to get it to hard dough stage. No self propelled sprayer will want to go through it and an airplane can't get chemical down into it. Something put up for hay is ok. You just have to swath it before the aphids mess it up so bad it has little feed value.
Last year was out 2nd year with them. It was a quick learning experience. They were so bad here, a couple fields of milo that were not treated never headed. There are very few fields of milo planted this year. Infestation was spotty. Some never needed treating and some needed treated twice. There is no such thing as an aphid tolerant variety as of now. | |
