south central wisconsin
I have worked with the same independent guy for the last 21 years, he's in my fields every 7-10 days from middle of April to end of August. He stops with spray recommendations if there are any and lets me know whats going on. He does all soil sampling, fertilizer recommendations, variety placement and nutrient management plans, Wisconsin's really picky, especially if you have manure. He charges $9/acre (not including nutrient management) and it's the best money I spend every year. I'm by myself and I look at him like I do my attorney or my accountant, I pay for his advice and given he's independent I don't worry when he makes a recommendation. I couldn't run the acres I do, get the work done and scout too. I know what I'm good at and like to do and it's not scouting or knowing everything about every product in the market. He's improved my crops year in and year out and we joke that when he retires I'm retiring too.
