Subject: RE: Lets Look at Wheat

Southeast Colorado
I still don't understand why that freeze last year didn't harm the wheat. It basically defied logic. The only thing I can imagine is that wheat must be somewhat daylight sensitive because the hot February had our wheat jointed when that (normal) cold in March hit. I thought the plant would have to shoot new tillers but it did not. Somehow that head in the stem didn't bat an eye with several days below 15 degrees and just kept on growing. We've had that happen in April before and killed the wheat dead. New one for me!
